another test blog

One of the paradoxes I can‘t resolve about the anti-globalization movement:  On the one hand, it’s no good to have US firms exploit banana plantation and textile workers who have low wages and bad working conditions.  At the same time, it’s no good to export customer service jobs, with good pay and good working conditions.

I guess the message is – just don’t employ people in other countries.  A bit like Mom’s advice not to talk to strangers.

Holy Crap!! Yodlee is the greatest thing to ever happen to the Internet! This is *by far* the best internet application of the last two years.

this blog is a test

I just e-mail it in, I don’t even have to log in to the friggin’ website.  How nice is that?

The problem with flu season / cold season in New York is that you pass and interact with thousands of strangers every day -- so one's likelihood of acquiring contagions is much higher. In Tokyo, acknowledging this problem, sick people would wear facemasks if they went outside to ensure they wouldn't accidentally sneeze or cough on an unsuspecting passerby. Here I'm touching subway handles, elevator buttons, door knobs and innumerable other things that literally have *thousands* touching them, not just the few hundred that I'm used to from life in the suburbs. Even my immune system has to be bigger / better in this city.

I've recently taken to avoiding the office altogether and now bring my laptop instead to the local high-speed-internet coffeeshop. They let you sit, by the huge windows, practically all day for a $1.50 cup of coffee, all the while DJ and bringing you water. I can't imagine why more people don't do this. There must be a catch somewhere. The cafe is also cool now that all the NYU students are back and it's filled with grad students trying to out-conjugate one another using preposterously large words for otherwise normal everyday topics. Today, I actually overhead one of them say "people call me genius a lot."

Could the set of a porn movie be said to have a corporate dress code? Perhaps an undress code?
